Optical Data Storage

Optical Memories are the most common exchangeable Strorage Medium. CD and DVD are extremely dominant for prerecorded Audio-, Video- and Software content. Also for recordable content the Formats CD-R(W), DVD-R(W) and DVD+R(W) are widely spread. Magnetical disks or cassetts are almost completely replaced by optical Memories. New Formats for high-def-Video like BlueRay-Disc and HD-DVD with more than 30 GB native Capacity are already in the shops. IHT took part in development of DVD and Blue-Ray. We supported industry with statical tests on prototypes of rewritable (RW) storage layers (TTT-Diagrams). Development of optical memories ist still continuing. IHT is participating in development of super resolution Media (near field optics) and holografic data storage. These will offer at least 100 GB on a 12 cm-Disc.
