ForMikro - SiGeSn NanoFETs

Logo of a BMBF project

Together with partners at Forschungszentrum Juelich, Helmholtzzentrum Dresden Rossendorf, University of Erlangen, IHP Franfurt Oder as well as a number of industrial partners, we investigate and employ all group IV heterostructures based on alloys consisting of Si, Ge, and Sn for advanced field-effect transistors devices. The research work covers work on vertical and lateral multi-gate field-effect and band-to-band tunnel transistors. IHT investigates lateral group IV heterostructure nanowire TFETs realized with ion implantation and flash lamp annealing.

ForLab - 2DForMe

Logo of a BMBF project

Institute of Semiconductor Electronics is spart of the so-called Research Labs Microelectronics Germany (ForLab). Within ForLab initiative, the German Ministry of Education and Research provided infrastructure grants that allow complementing the research infrastructure for micro- and nanofabrication at selected universities across Germany. The ForLab 2DForMe at RWTH Aachen University deals with the exploration of 2D materials and covers the full value chain, from material growth, device fabrication and integration.

Matter and Light for Quantum Computation

Logo fo ML4Q

„Matter and Light for Quantum Computation“ (ML4Q) is a so-called Excellence Cluster funded by DFG within the German Excellence Initiative. Experts from the University of Cologne, the University of Bonn, Research Center Juelich as well as RWTH Aachen University join forces to carry out groundbreaking work and explore novel approaches for future quantum computation. In close collaboration with the department of physics at RWTH, Institute of Semiconductor investigates ways to realize long-range coupling of qubits via a quantum bus and as an alternative with coupling quantumd dots to a superconductor.

Neurotec II

Logo of the neurotec project

Neurotec (Neuro-inspired Articifial Intelligence Technologies for Future Electronics) is a large-scale initiative that has been running since November 2019 bringing together researchers from material science, physics as well as engineering at RWTH Aachen University and Research Center Juelich. The project is focused on hardware, i.e. it explores novel materials, devices, circuits and systems enabling low power, neuromorphic computing. Together with partners from material science, IHT targets at demonstrating reconfigurable interconnect systems that combine memristive materials with CMOS devices in 3D.

InnoRetVision

InnoRetVision Logo

RTG 2610 – Innovative Retinal Interfaces for Optimized Artificial Vision – InnoRetVision is a DFG funded Research Training Group dedicated to train graduate students with a background and interest in electrical engineering, neuroengineering, biophysics, sensory or neurophysiology, and or vision restoration. The aim of InnoRetVision is to explore innovative methods for the stimulation of the visual system to improve current techniques for vision restoration in blind humans. IHT works on encapsulation of multi-electrode arrays with 2D materials.
